The Forest Above the Bay

It’s one of a kind and together we saved it forever!
Project Description

Forest Above the Bay was a unique opportunity to protect and preserve a small but valuable little gem, 2-acre parcel, high on a ridge above Miller Bay. Rare, old growth conifers tower above a small section of woodland forest, providing undeveloped natural habitat and mudslide control, while producing a much-needed carbon sink. Our challenge was to raise money quickly, to meet a finite window of opportunity. Fundraising efforts began in the summer of 2023 and culminated when we met our goal of $160,000.00-- successfully closing escrow November 30, 2023. It was a huge accomplishment and could not have been realized without our wonderful community of residents, members and generous supporters. We value and appreciate your continued trust and commitment. Together we accomplished something truly significant.

Benefits

This project preserved 2 acres of treasured, mature coniferous forest, including some of the most significant conifers visible around Miller Bay (estimated to be 150-200 years old). In addition to expanding natural habitat above Miller Bay and avoiding future development, this land abuts the Indianola Woodland Preserve, adding to the existing 81-acre preserve and providing a buffer to housing developments bordering this forest property.
