Two Successful Summer 2026 Events and More Coming in the Fall!
Updated: Sep 25
Summer Beach Cleanup & Oyster "Garden" Transplanting
We had two productive events over the very busy summer—our annual Beach Clean-up and a special Oyster ‘Garden’ transplanting event that Paul Dorn conducted for the ‘Nooschkum’ families—A historic group of multi-generational families who share a ‘compound’ of family cabins, established along the mouth of Miller Bay’s entrance in the early 1900’s. We were successful in both cleaning up the bay, hauling a truckload of trash away, and moving some native oysters from our ‘test garden’ on Clam Island to the Southern shore of Miller Bay.

Sign-Up for Fall & Winter Quarterly Bird Counts!
Nancy D’Archangel, co-founder and long-time leader of FOMB, continues to coordinate the popular Miller Bay Bird Count. If you would like to participate in any of the quarterly bird counts, please email Nancy at njdarchangel@gmail.com No birding experience is necessary! It’s a fun way to learn about the birds who live on or visit our bay and meet members/neighbors that share your interest!
Email Nancy to receive notification of upcoming counts! About a week ahead, you’ll receive an email with the time and date and where to meet. Counts usually start about 8am and conclude about 11am. Groups carpool to 4 locations around the bay. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars, if you have them. Leaders will share theirs if you don’t have any.
“I hope some of you will join lead birder, Bill Zwartjes and me for a count or two, or three!” --Nancy
