To further our efforts to secure a Trust Land Transfer from the Department of Natural Resources to Kitsap County Parks, we were invited to attend a special lobby event (January 28,2026) at the State Capitol, sponsored by Stewards of Washington State Lands.

FOMB Board members were presented with the award in a reception and ceremony Monday 4/13/26 at the County Commissioner’s Chambers in Port Orchard. Thanks to FOMB member, Elizabeth Kozleski for nominating us, writing the application and gathering support letters from several influential community leaders.

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows individuals aged 70.5 or older to donate from their IRAs to charitable organizations and avoid ordinary income tax. This donation counts toward satisfying your RMD for the year and is not included in your taxable income, helping to lower your overall tax burden. Ask your financial institution to make this donation directly to a qualifying 501(c)(3) charity and it will not be included in your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI).

Friends of Miller Bay was honored in April with a County “Earth Day Award”, recognizing our many years of preservation and stewardship work, as well as our increased efforts to educate our members and promote community engagement. As “Stewards” this honor means a great deal to us and inspires us to continue our good work.

The loud “thwack” on the deck above me was a jolt out of the tedium of repairs. We had just purchased a house overlooking Miller Bay, and the renovations were in full swing. When I went up to investigate, there was an 8 to 10-inch-long halibut still twitching on the deck… I realized that the welcome present was (accidently) delivered by an Osprey!
